How do I write in the style of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn?

He wrote a day in the life of Ivan Denisovich. I need to try to mimic his style for five pages-- it's my summer reading project. And so far, all I can get from the text is that he wrote in the third person and often added his own thoughts into the text, writing around the action.
